Therefore, a vital part of

Brandenburch is committed to corporate social responsibility. We do this first and foremost by developing innovative, plant-based animal nutrition. We repurpose residual streams from the juice industry and process fiber-rich derivatives such as soybean meal and apple pomace into high-quality nutritional products. Because we produce efficiently, we minimize waste. Nearly everything is reused. The minimal remaining residual stream is collected by biodigesters, which convert it into green gas. To further reduce our pawprint, we prefer working with local ingredients and transport.

We aim to promote sustainability and the well-being of both animals and people by:

  • developing and producing nutritious, plant-based animal feed;
  • reusing fiber-rich by-products from the juice industry;
  • use of protein-rich derivatives;
  • converting minimal residual streams into energy for biodigesters;
  • supporting local suppliers for ingredients and logistics.

Our team

The Brandenburch taste makers

At Brandenburch, everyone is equal; from salesperson to production manager and from administrative assistant to process operator. We are nothing without the expertise and commitment of our professionals. Our team have their feet firmly on the ground. Hierarchy? We don’t do that. Everyone has equal opportunities to develop and contribute. Just as we need our customers’ expertise to achieve the best end product, we cannot do without our professionals to deliver high-quality plant-based dry feed for animals.

Plantbased focused

At Brandenburch, our core business is producing the best plant-based feed for animals. Because we care about animal welfare. And because we want to get the most out of plant-based raw materials. So we have practically no residual products; they go back into the process. A small residual flow goes to a biodigester, which converts it into green gas. So animals, humans, and the environment all benefit from our plant-based animal feed.

About extrusion

From plant-based raw material to high-quality animal feed

The extrusion process changes the structure of the raw material so that the animal’s digestive enzymes can penetrate the cells more easily. This allows the animal to digest the food better. We make complete feeds that contain everything the animal needs, or alternatively, individual components that are incorporated into another product or muesli.

History

What’s in a name

Evert Spelt – founder of Brandenburch – still wants nothing more than to make the best possible use of food products. Where does that come from? His father had a small animal feed company in Maarssen, with a modern electric mill and a small factory. In addition, Mr. Spelt sold small-pet feed in a little grocery shop. So we can safely say that making animal feed was ingrained in Evert from an early age. And with a surname like that, what else would you expect?

From father to son

In 1977, Evert Spelt followed in his father’s footsteps when he founded Brandenburch. Where does that name come from? It is named after his great-grandfather’s farm. Evert also wanted to make the best possible use of food products. Besides having a big heart for animals, it was simply in his DNA.

Production of processed grain products

Soon after Brandenburch was founded, the company started processing grain products. Then the first micronization line was introduced, and Brandenburch – together with a German agency – conquered the European market. Around the 1990s, a first single-screw extruder was purchased. In 1994, a second extrusion line followed, and in 2000 a third. The latter was specifically aimed at pet food snacks.

Transition to plant-based animal feed

In 2004, Evert sold his company to focus on other projects. But he came back. Due to an unfortunate chain of circumstances in 2017, Brandenburch as it existed then could no longer continue. Evert Spelt stepped in again and took over the helm. This turnaround shifted the company’s focus to plant-based animal feed: extrusion, micronization, and alfalfa sieving.

A great succes, right on target

Since then, Brandenburch has never stood still. Behind a seemingly old factory wall of silos and steel, innovation, testing, and development are constantly underway. Always keeping our feet on the ground. Always drawing on the customer’s expertise. Always working together with the Brandenburch team to create the best plant-based pet food.
